Mia is nearly 19 months. Yep, for the first time in almost 3 years, we have
been child free for the last two blocks of church for a month. It is
glorious.
She is massive personality packed into a tiny 31 inch (50th percentile),
19lb8oz (3rd percentile) body. She wears shoes and hats for 6 month olds.
She is goofy, cuddly, fiercely independent, and noisy. Oh so noisy.
Still only has 8 teeth, but she doesn’t let that stop her from eating things
like big old carrot sticks and nuts. Her gums look like mountains right now, so
I think the next 8 are on the way. Can't wait.
She is finally finding a use for the English language and is consistently
using the words: mommy, dada, no, yeah, dog, woof woof, up, hi. Other words
like “pop” make an appearance once in a while. Most of this is only in the last
two weeks She tends to take something new reeeeeaaaaal sloooooooow and then
BOOM she explodes into it. Her and her brother will be having coherent
arguments in no time.
She loves to run, jump, hang, dance, and climb. If there's
room enough for her fingertips to grab, she can climb it.
She insists on using her own spoon and fork and plate. There will be hell to
pay if you try and feed her. Except dessert. You may feed her dessert. And don’t
you dare think about touching that yogurt she didn’t want to eat.
She loves to open and close things. Put things on, take things off. Stick
things in, pull things out. She can concentrate meticulously on one simple task
for a long time, and repeat that task the exact same way over and over and
over. Case in point: she has an empty milk jug with two lids. Red lid on. Black
lid on. Black lid off. Red lid off. Milk jug down. Milk jug up. Red lid on.
Black lid on etc. If there’s a glitch in the pattern, she starts over. This
kept her entertained for 20-30 minutes one evening.
She can do puzzles.
She loves water and sand-digging her fingernails into it and getting dirty.
She’d be happy if she was covered head to toe.
She loves, loves, loves. Kisses, hugs, cuddles, pats on the back are all
favourite activities for this girl. She shows a special concern for her brother
and is always wanting to kiss and hug him, which little by little is softening
his heart. He has never been a cuddly boy, so Mia’s overwhelming displays of
affection aren’t always his cup of tea. I have hope though!
She is a daddy’s girl through and through. She might pout because she wants
me, but she’ll cry for her daddy. She loves her daddy cuddles before bed.
We love our little dimple filled ball of sunshine!
