B is 2! (And my dad is 60!)

Our sweet B turned 2 this past week, sharing her second birthday with her Grampy who turned 60.

We had pizza on her birthday with Grandma and Grandpa (adults ordered Indian takeout because we can never pass up the opportunity to try a new Indian locale), and Uncle Alex and Auntie Katey also joined us for birthday cupcakes. Anyone who tried to sing Happy Birthday to her in the days leading up to her birthday were met with a firm "Stop it!" from miss B. But on her actual day she was more than happy to be serenaded. All her presents were met with enthusiastic "wowwwwws".

Over the weekend we had planned somewhat of a surprise party for my dad-which was much easier operating under the guise of celebrating Bs birthday. My dad has always been a Peter's drive-in fan, and since I grew up in Calgary, I often remember him going on a late night "burger run", especially if dinner hadn't been his favourite haha. We would also stop their on occasion after youth dances, and he would order a triple cheese, extra cheese, extra sauce, no onions almost without fail.

The idea started to base it on Peter's drive-in. And the next thing I know there's a lawn sign, and a t-shirt, and my mom picking up containers from Peter's drive-in for the food. We had burgers, fries, onion rings, and a milkshake bar for dessert. It's so hard to give my dad a gift for birthday or Christmas, because if you ask him what he wants he'll tell you some outrageously expensive thing you'll never be able to afford. But if you give him money, he'll turn around an spend it on you. It felt really nice to be able to give back to him in a way that was meaningful on his special day. Also how do you get him a meaningful after giving him a grandchild as a birthday gift two years ago? Basically, impossible.

Thankfully there are only 13 of us right now + the grand doggie, so everyone was able to be together to celebrate. Mercifully it was sunny. Double mercifully my husband has worked hard over the past two summers to change our backyard from neighbourhood eyesore to a space fit for entertaining.

Now on to talking about miss B, who calls herself "Bwookie".

She is 23lbs (25%) and 2ft 7 inches (5%). Her and Scarlett can basically share the same clothes and shoes. I have had to kick Scarlett out of the 2T clothes so B can have them.

She is missing 1 eye tooth and her 2 year old molars.

Her favourite foods are cheese, pasta, chicken, and chocolate. But she pretty much eats anything including all veggies rejected by her siblings (green beans...asparagus...zucchini...). She often finishes her first helping before I've even sat down to eat.

She isn't a huge fan of any particular movie or TV show (unlike all her older siblings), but she does love "baby songs" on YouTube, music from Frozen, or from Descendants (thanks to her older sisters).

She is now in a "big girl bed", and we're done with middle of the night wakings and bottles. Honestly I was so paranoid about sleep training and getting rid of bottles with the others. With her my goal was mom sleeping. So I let the early 5am bottle feedings continue until she grew out of them herself. Which she did.

She loves to sing and dance and almost every day she asks "Mum, can I dance?". Pre-bedtime recitals are common around here.

She knows ABCs, almost counting to 20 (including visually recognizing 1-5), most shapes and most colours, tons of animals, foods etc. She loves to ask questions, and will put 4 or 5 words together in sentences. She can also spell her name (out loud), and frequently asks "Mum can I write B-R-O-O-K-L-Y-N?"

B loves her snuggles, especially from Granny, her favourite person in the world. But she will gladly take snuggles from most other aunts, uncles, grandparents, and siblings. She got to spend a few days on her own with Granny a few weeks ago, and she loved playing with her cousin Charlie in Calgary.

B is entering the terrible twos with full force. She has found the assertive, confident, voice required to be the youngest of 4 children, and is very adamant about how things should go.

She loves loves loves to play outside and go for walks. One day she asked me if we could play outside and I told her it was raining. She said "Mum, can you turn off the raining?" She is happy to be climbing, swinging, sliding, riding, digging...anything to be in fresh air.

B often joins me in my workout. Lunges, jumps, squats, crunches, and plank are her specialty.

Lately her favourite art canvases have been her hands, the dining room chairs, and the walls. It was especially bad during home school when there was always a stray pencil or crayon to be found.

She has a very caring, nurturing side, and I will often find her playing with dolls or stuffed animals-feeding them, bathing them, dressing them, taking them on walks, shushing them, reading to them, tucking them in. She even put one stuffed animal "on the toilet" (it was actually our bookshelf) because he apparently had to go poo. She also tried to hug a mosquito I squished on the wall, and said "it's ok squito, don't die". I've also heard her issue spontaneous apologies if she's accidentally done something to upset someone (no apologies though for purposeful mischief!).

We just love this little nugget and her sense of humour, sense of independence, and sense of caring!
