And life gets a little crazier

I just finished off my second plate of crackers and cheese. I'm pretty sure I went through that whole cracker box in 3 days. Not the best time for me to get sick considering we are moving this week and need to pack, move and clean by Friday. However, if I think about how just a few days ago Gordon and I were convinced we were moving in with his parents due to his lack of a job and us not wanting to sign any leases in case we had to move if he did get a job, this is progress.

You could say that it happened at the 11th hour, Thursday night. Gordon finally got an email saying he was officially offered a position with the U of A. He had his first interview for this job almost a month ago, so it was a long time coming. First we were a little speechless that he was actually offered the position, since we were sure that after all this time it would be a no, but prayers are heard and answered, and sometimes the Lord takes you down to the wire just to test your faith and make sure you won't chicken out on Him. Do I think that it was a coincidence that our deadline for waiting for this job was Friday and he got the position Thursday at 9 pm? Absolutely not. Hopefully we passed test one.

Then came a whole other set of challenges that we hadn't expected to deal with. Where were we going to live? Having giving our notice here, and with our landlord selling our suite, staying in our current place was a no-go. So began the frantic scouring of kijiji and emailing/phone tagging every suitable place (aka not in NE Edmonton). Test 2 was (and still is) well underway.

Test 3 started Thursday, I'd been kind of feeling under the weather with a cough and not much of an appetite, but Friday one of the worst "colds" in living memory knocked me down hard. I think every available space in my head was congested, every joint in my body ached. I was freezing and utterly exhausted. I spent the day wrapped in a blanket, trying to keep Isaac occupied while staying as immobile as I could. I barely had the strength to pick him up. Unfortunately Gordon had so much running around to do that day, that it was just me and I-man. I remember thinking many many times that there should be a rule that mothers weren't be allowed to be sick. I managed to suck back a few pretzels, a yogurt, and an applesauce, but they all made prompt acquaintance with the toilet. In fact, I was so sick that I didn't care that there were bits of cardboard on the carpet, that the kitchen floor needed to be swept and that my bathroom missed it's weekly cleaning for the first time since we moved in a year ago. Yep. Definitely sick.

And now you understand why I'm so happy about two plates of crackers and cheese.

Fortunately for me, my wonderful mother came up from Calgary to take care of me and Isaac, and to get the packing started, even though my grampa had just passed away the Friday night. Best mum in the world? Yeah pretty much.

Today I can breathe out of one nostril, haven't gone through an entire box of kleenex, and actually got off the couch more than once. Maybe test 3 is almost done?

Tomorrow we book a uhaul and pack more boxes. We think we have a destination but nothing is certain. Are we worried? Not really, we know the Lord will take care of us just as He always has, and always will as long as we put our trust in Him and do our part. If I've learned anything it's that these series of tests aren't obstacles to check off a list such as "get a job" or "find a house". They are tests of trust and character. We are proving to the Lord that no matter what uncertainty we face, we will trust that His way is the best way and that His time is the best time.

6 month update!

First, thanks to my little sister Devon for updating the blog's look and cleaning it up! I still need to put up some photos and update the "about us" section but I'm pretty pleased with the way it looks so far.

Isaac turned 6 months a week ago today and he changes so much that I have to write everything down in my phone when it happens just so I don't forget! There have definitely been lots of firsts for us in the last two weeks.
p.s. I will post pictures later! I’m just trying to get it in print while I can or I’ll never get it done.

-first time rolling from back to front

-first time eating solids: rice cereal, applesauce, banana, peaches, avocado (not a fan), yam, carrots, mashed potato (and non-mom approved tastes from grandma and granpy...nutella, whipped cream, lemon...)

-first time swimming at both an indoor and outdoor pool. He was content just to observe and take everything in.

-first time at the park. Not completely enthusiastic about that either.

-first vacation just the three of us-at my parents timeshare in Fairmont Hot Springs

                                                         And just for your info...

-weighs 16lbs6oz (25th percentile) and is 26.5 inches long (50th percentile)

-size 3 diapers

-6, 9, 12 month onesies, 3-6 month bottoms (Long body, short legs …just a weiner dog like his mum!)

-two more bottom teeth on their way, but taking their sweet time! So much grumpier this time around.

-goes to sleep on his side

-reaches for everything. Hold on to your plates and cups.

-getting better at sitting but still wobbles from side to side. And still loves to stand.

-wakes up at 6:30 every morning, no matter how late he goes to bed (bedtime is anywhere from 7:30-9).

-will hyperventilate if he sees his bottle and is hungry

-when he looks in the mirror he has one of three reactions: playful and smiley, shy, fusses and makes
strange (especially if he’s tired)

-has two new noises: the “he-man” (christened by Grampy J)-a growl and grunt where he tenses up and acts like the hulk, and the “Tarzan” (christened by me)-a yell reminiscent of Tarzan

We have absolutely been LOVING  this weather. First shorts and sunburn of the year have never felt better. I’m even sporting Isaac’s handprint on my back since the sun so neatly pinked up the skin around his hand while I was holding him , leaving a very obvious Isaac memento. It took me about 10 minutes to figure out why there was a hand shaped white patch on my back.

This week we’re excited for more swimming, walks, games and cuddles. It’s so nice to get away from the pestering cloud that has been Gordon finding work and whether to move or not. Life is far too short to spend it constantly worrying about what’s next. Sometimes you really do just have to live for today.
