A few weeks later we had her party at my parents, and true to my resolution it was simple and sweet! We celebrated with our family and a few friends, and it was just a nice low key catch-up-with-everyone-and-eat-food type of party. She was pretty grumpy (again) but did enjoy opening her presents!
At 13 (or 11 or 12...) months-
Mia weighed 16lbs6 oz and measured 28 inches long at 1 yr. She's our tiny bean and we love her size-especially since I can still carry her around in the bucket seat and bundle her up for the cold!
Her and Isaac love taking turns pushing each other on ride-on toys.
She has 7 teeth, which means she caught up to her brother when he was her age, averaging 2-3 teeth a month. And trust me, we noticed.
She learned to clap, dance and fold her arms. We were saying prayers with Isaac, and we told him to fold his arms. Mia clasped her little hands together completely on her own. We hadn't even attempted to teach her to do that yet, so it caught us completely off guard. But anytime you say "time for prayer" she will fold her little hands together and put on a huge beaming smile.
She is still taking her sweet time walking. She is perfectly capable of standing on her own for long periods of time, and can squat down and stand up without any furniture. She just can't seem to get the courage to take steps, or maybe she knows that crawling is a faster way to get what she wants, and that she has a lower center of gravity in case her crazy brother is tearing around the house. I have to say that after 7 months of her crawling and cruising, I am very ready for the walking to begin.
She loves a good dress-up session!
She says mama and dada consistently, and can also say "Isaac", "up", "yeah", and "all done" (ah-duh, just like Isaac used to say!) when she feels like it. She can also sign "more".
She loves things to be silly and goofy. Her favourite game is to try and sneak into their bedroom when Isaac is having a nap. A close second is emptying her change table of books, clothes and diapers while I'm not looking. Usually Isaac shuts the door so they're alone in the room, they make their mess, and Isaac runs out yelling "Mia made a mess with clothes! I made a mess with diapers!".
Isaac is teaching her how to sword fight.
She can eat her weight in food, and usually finishes her meal and Isaac's. She loves pasta, bananas, sandwiches, cheese, yogurt, blackberries and blueberries (no other kind of berries!). She's a great eater for the most part and will almost eat anything.
She loves to watch Frozen and Finding Nemo. If ever I need a 20 minute break to shower or eat and she will not leave my side, they are my saving grace.
She is very social and hates being left alone-hence the above. Sometimes I like to eat my food without being clawed at or climbed on.
She also loves books. I will sit on the floor with her and she will bring me a book to read to her, then she'll get another and another, and repeat 10 times. But nothing beats her snuggles.
She's good at photobombing
