Isaac update

I thought Isaac's funnies needed their own post. This post is more a collection of what he's like at 4.5 years old.

He still loves Batman, Star Wars, and sharks, in no particular order.

He is registered for French Immersion kindergarten in September. He's loved preschool and I think he'll love kindergarten even more. This picture is from father/son night where they built bird houses.
He likes reading long stories of all kinds (fairy tales, encyclopedia and fact books, short stories)

He likes all kinds of music-rock, pop, instrumental, soundtracks. I've introduced him to the piano guys and he is obsessed with their Cello Wars and Batman Evolution tracks. He has a discman and spends his quiet time listening to a special CD his dad burned for him of some of his favourite tunes.

His favourite clothes are sweats and tshirts.

He could eat sandwiches or smoothies for every meal, but is generally a pretty good eater. He will try anything I make, and has now added mashed and baked potatoes (foods he has never liked) to things he now enjoys.

He has a tendency to be a control freak (like his mother). He likes to outline the "plan" for everything and is always telling me "this is the deal" or "this is the plan". He frequently forgets who the boss is around here! He likes his things in a certain spot, and his room stays generally pretty tidy for a 4 year old. Routine and clear communication are pretty important to him.

He doesn't like to spend a long time learning things, and doesn't have a lot of patience for skills that take practice or that don't come naturally to him. We are working on perseverance and progress being more important than "success" or "results".

He's great with athletics and was recommended to go into an advanced swimming class after passing his last lesson. He loves to be outside doing anything.
Isaac is still as intense as ever. Every emotion is full throttle, pedal to the metal. He has way too big of a vocabulary for his emotions, and usually gets into trouble for his choice of words particularly when he's upset. This seems to be our biggest challenge lately, but I'm sure like all of the other ones we've overcome, we'll work though it and something else will takes its place haha.

His knowledge of things astounds me. Whether its spelling, math, counting, science... he retains information very easily.

He loves his sisters, and is always quick to come to their defense and protection in the face of other bullies. He loves to teach them new things. He'll help Mia read a book and teach her how to pronounce all the words. Of course, every big brother also feels compelled to annoy the crap out of his little sisters, but I'm confident they'll all be great friends when their older (every crossable body part is crossed for that anyway).

I am raising a truly great little person. He is a complex puzzle that I am still learning about every day. He humbles me, makes me laugh, surprises me, tests me, and makes me so grateful I get to be his mom.

Things Isaac says

I feel like "Things Isaac says" should have its own blog post. I could probably slap a voice recorder on that kid and write a novel within a month.

Unfortunately, my only means of remembering his 4 year old candid expressions are me writing them down on my notepad when I remember to-which is not as often as I'd like with three kiddos to keep me busy. But nevertheless here are some of the gems I've managed to capture over the last few months.

On his superhero powers-
"I have more special powers like gadgets and smelly feet. The feet are on my belt-not my actual feet."

Things he says at church (usually very loudly)-
"Can you get this booger out of my nose?"
"I'm so boooorrrred."
"This is the worst part of my day."
*Despite his negative exclamations, every drive home from church he tells me that he had a great day there

On his love life-
At his Auntie Paige's wedding he gallantly asked my best friend's daughter J to dance. J was shy at first, but once her and Isaac started dancing they spent the rest of the evening playing together. Before bed that night we were talking about marriage and he says "I'm going to marry J, because she's my favourite".

I noticed Isaac was upset one time when I picked him up from preschool. I asked him what was wrong and he replies "Well N and K are in love now so I'm done with them". For context N is a girl he "liked" and K is his best friend at preschool. I'm not sure if this was a love triangle that didn't go his way, or if he was mad his best friend ditched him for a girl...

*He is a total ladies man and sometimes I can't even mention a girls name without him giggling his face off, but does get very embarrassed as well if he overhears me telling Gordon about one of his adventures of the heart

While he's playing-
"Mia, we forgot the liver! We forgot the liver!" (I found out later he was trying to say "lever")
"Ahh Mia it's the baby! She has the poopy diaper bomb!"
*Most of our games involve pretending to be superheroes/villains, and even Scarlett gets in on the action

While he's praying-
I was explaining to Isaac about things he could be grateful for like a warm home. In a very exasperated voice he says "But mum, this house isn't even warm!"

And other treasures-
I ate a piece of gum without wanting the kids to know, because I didn't feel like dealing with a fight. When I went to buckle Isaac in his carseat he says in a very accusatory tone "Wait a second, you have yummy breath, what did you eat?!"

"Mom, you're a sperm whale"

"Scarlett you're random." When I asked him what "random" meant, he explains "You're a sheep, and not a sheep. You're a sheep and a lemur. A white sheep, not a black sheep."

He has no filter, and lots of the time the lack of it is one of my biggest parenting challenges. But sometimes it's really one of my favourite things about raising him!

Scarlett: 9 months

Baby girl is the magical 9 months! She has now been a part of our world as long as she was preparing to come into it.

Unfortunately, she seems to have forgotten that she no longer has to be attached to me. She is my shadow, and most of the time cannot seem to keep herself together if I leave her sight. She is fine as long as I'm not around, but as soon as mama arrives, all previous contentment is forgotten and she has suddenly been having such a horrible time without me.

She loves her big brother and sister. She loves giving them hugs and kisses, and chasing her sister around the house. She is so excited when she wakes up in the morning and sees them.

She hates when things get taken away from her, and has no problem with screaming at her sister or pulling her hair if she's trying to take a toy away from her.

She pulls herself up to standing on pretty much anything, and loves to grab and eat the remotes.

She still hates baths but loves having showers with mum. She thinks she's in some sort of baby spa, and just cuddles up to me and doesn't move a muscle while the water runs over her.

She is a great eater and eats loads of things the other two didn't when they were babies including avocado and hardboiled eggs.

She has been sleeping better as of the last week, only waking up once a night, so fingers crossed it's not a fluke!

She loves dancing to music.

She lifts both her arms high above her head when she hears "Reach for the sky!"

We love our tiny girl and her big personality!

Scarlett: 8 months

Technically Scarly girl was 8 months a week ago, but it takes a week of something being on my to do list before it gets done around here.

This last month was huge for baby S in terms of firsts! It was also a gross month of croup, pink eye and the flu all in 1-2 weeks, but she still managed to come out on top!

-first two teeth (worst out of the three kiddos by far)
-learned to crawl and loves exploring the house with her new found independence
-uses furniture to pull herself up to her knees and see what new "toys" she can put in her mouth
-gives kisses
-waves
-dances (rocks back and forth to any beat while she's sitting or crawling)
-has tantrums if you take something away from her (sprawls on the floor face first, screams, and kicks her legs)

we are not strangers to 8 month old tantrums-her big brother started having tantrums at this age as well, and we vividly remember how fun that was

about as fun as dressing an octopus while a rabid squirrel is attacking your face

She is our champion eater and loves trying any food we give her-she especially loves apple slices, grapes, and oranges.

She used to be our champion sleeper but she gave up that title once the teething hit. Apparently she can only hold one championship at a time...

She is a mama's girl through and through. AKA she is my velcro baby. I'm not one of those moms who loves wearing their kids, so this has been hard for me. Although since the crawling as begun she is a little more content to not be attached to me every minute of the day. If she's really cranky about me being out of her sights (usually if I'm trying to cook dinner), I just put her in a laundry basket in the kitchen with me and surround her with toys.

She loves her big brother and sister and will often try and cuddle with them. She also loves to attack faces and pull hair.

We love watching this little girl grow and change!
