Mormon Invasion and Midwives

Ironically being in obstetrics this semester has made me want to have a midwife and NOT a hospital birth. I'm trying to get Gordon used to this idea since he think it's medieval. We probably won't do it with our first couple just to see how the labours go... but it's definitely something I'm considering for future children. I'm super grateful that I'm in a profession where you get a lot of education about this because it's so darn practical, and not to say that those who aren't in health professions don't educate themselves or not to negate experience, but the comfort of my maternal and child health textbook when I'll pregnant will be nice. I like to feel like I know what's going on...at least a little. Those doctors ain't gonna know what hit them when I get there.

That's all I have to say about that. (Well it's not but it's all I'll subject you to).

Gordon and I went to Salt Lake City for general conference last weekend. There's only one reason why I'll coop myself up in a car for three days and that's it. In total we spent about 33 hours driving in 4 days. But once you get there and you're surrounded 21 000+ (that's how many the conference centre seats and there's always people outside waiting for tickets) members of the church you know it was all worth it to be there and receive instruction. We get to listen to a living prophet who speaks to us as the Lord's mouthpiece. No matter how crazy this sounds to anyone else, I know it's true. God loves us just as much as He loved His children from the Bible. He still blesses us with inspired leaders to guide us. One of my favourite parts of conference is when President Monson walks into the conference centre. Everyone stands and everyone is quiet. The church member's love for him is almost tangible. I love it. The other part I love, is being surrounded by people who believe and feel the same way as you do about the gospel. We are one big family. A family who is collectively and individually striving to rise above the constant smut of this world. We aren't perfect in any way and don't profess to be. But we are trying to be a little kinder, love a little deeper, and shine a little brighter. And conference is a personal reminder of how to do that. It's 8 hours of how to be more awesome. And I can certainly use that.
